I want to stop drinking. Bad things happen when I drink and I feel responsible and sad. I don’t like myself and what I do and I’m struggling with what to do. I know I drink because I’m unhappy. It’s a release because the pain of being alive gets to me and I use it to forget or to lessen the grip of life. I realize I have to lessen my grip on life so that I don’t need it to feel good. Been seeing a lot of videos about god Maybe Jesus could show up

I'm curious. What happened? Something bad pecificLly that shook you or it's just time to give it up?
- the person who asked·
Both. I have been thinking it for years after I do dumb shit and then I go back to getting out of control over and over again. I don’t know how to stop it’s such a big part of my life.

Yeah breaking habits is hard. Sounds like you are fed up and looking to change. If you could waive your magic wand what would you want to happen? How would your relationship to alcohol change?

I’d stop binging. I could have a drink or two and then be done and not compulsively seek getting to that level if deep inebriation

Do you think that's an achievable goal? Like it feels realistic and something you can do?
- the person who asked·
I’m willing to try. I believe so. I’ve felt this way before but then I make bad decisions I know I won’t be able to get out of like go to the bar late at night and I throw everything out.

Do you know what those behaviors are like going to the bar late at night? What else? Anyone around you you can get on your team to help?
- the person who asked·
Going to the bar late. Hard alcohol. Shots. Driving. I feel like it’s always late nights that get me. I’ve dreamed of being able to not go out past 10. Be done. Because I’m usually ok before that. After 10 is always a bad idea. Fun. But with more conferences

What would it take to make hat change in your life?
- the person who asked·
Probably little or no alcohol in the house. And get my wife and friends in board with this 10pm curfew idea
- someone who replied, again·
What's stopping you from doing that?
- the person who asked·
My own fear admitting publicly that I struggle with this problem
- someone who replied, again·
Is that it?
- the person who asked·
Mainly. Yes. I don’t like to ask for help or depend on anyone other than myself. Makes me feel like a burden and like I’m weak
- someone who replied, again·
Do you care when others depend on you? Does it bother you?
- the person who asked·
Yeah sometimes. It’s hard enough just living my life. Balancing other ppls stuff makes it harder

Do you want to quit drinking because you feel like you let people down? Like you are a failure? And its.too much because you already feel like you are failing?
- the person who asked·
Yeah kinda. I drink because it’s what a failure does. And I feel like I’m failing at a lot of stuff sometimes so it’s the only time I don’t carry the weight of being a failure on my shoulders because the alcohol somehow lets me relax and helps me forget that weight.
- someone who replied, again·
If it isn't alcohol it would be something else. Most ppl think alcohol is the problem but I'd say the weight if your life, feeling like a failure, is so much it drives you to drink. Alcohol is your solution and it's sounding like not a really good one right now.
- the person who asked·
Yeah. That sums it up. Thank you. So what do I do?
- someone who replied, again·
2 fronts, find a way to not feel like a failure or that life is so heavy, and find a different solution to your stress.
- the person who asked·
Good ideas. Thank you. I reallly appreciate it and that feels like something I can do
