Does anyone on here have experience with anti anxiety or anti depression pills? I am going to get some this week and I don't know what to expect.

Not personally but know a lot of people who do. Tough to say. Everyone is different. I've heard stories of people noticing changes right away or sometimes it taking longer. Like a couple of weeks or months. Do you get along well with your doctor?

Very limited first hand experience here - I was on anxiolytics (light doses) for two weeks, it was meant to help me deal with things until I found a therapist. I didn't feel 'great' all of a sudden, however the anxiety never reached its peak level so I didn't experience any "extreme lows" during these two weeks. Placebo effect? Maybe. What I'd say is: whatever you do, ask questions. Is the medication you are to take made for long term or short ..

... term treatement? Some of these pills are great for a few weeks but can be damaging if taken for months. Should you decide to get off them, what would the procedure be like? Etc. Some pills nowadays are absolutely great, some less so. Your psychiatrist or your doctor should make sure you are well-informed on the one you'll take. Also, if possible, add psychotherapy sessions with a psychologist to the medication could be helpful.

My doctor is great. I have complete trust in her, but I can't help feeling nervous about taking the meds. I'm more worried about the side effects than anything. I play football and take advanced classes, and I don't want the medication to get in the way of that.

It's ok to be nervous. Just keep an open dialogue. If you are worried you could schedule a follow up 1 or 2 weeks after you start taking them and just cancel if things are going well. If you start to notice something, don't be afraid to speak up! Your care team is there to support you in succeeding, not just in prescribing something and having you go away.
