Vacations, meaning you have vacation days but you don't want to stop working?
- the person who asked·
Right
- someone who replied, again·
Do you have to stop? Someone making you?
- the person who asked·
Well, I mean, it's college vacations so there's nothing left to do
- someone who replied, again·
Ah. Don't want to go home! Glad you were enjoying college! What were some of your favorite things about this semester?
- the person who asked·
I mean, it was a zoomester, I never left home
- someone who replied, again·
Right. How long until you go back? Anything to look forward to over break?
- the person who asked·
No, not really
- someone who replied, again·
Dang. What are you studying? Going to be working, reading any good books, watching shows, etc?
- the person who asked·
Mechanical engineering and I really don't know what I'm gonna be doing
- someone who replied, again·
Wow, cool major! Hope you can enjoy some peace. What are some of your hobbies?
- the person who asked·
Music mostly
- the person who asked·
But I feel stuck, I hated every second of my semester but now that it's over, I kinda miss it
- someone who replied, again·
Hum. Does anyone close to you know you are feeling this way?
- the person who asked·
No one
- someone who replied, again·
Any particular reason to keep it inside?
- the person who asked·
They wouldn't help me, the would just judge me
- someone who replied, again·
Have you tried before? What would help look like to you?
- the person who asked·
Yes, I have, many times and what I said is exactly what happened
- someone who replied, again·
I'm sorry. What would help look like to you?
- the person who asked·
Honestly, I think the best help I could get woul be if someone listened to me
- someone who replied, again·
What do you want to say? I'll listen
- the person who asked·
That's the worst part, there are so many things i never said, I don't know where to start, I don't know what to say
- someone who replied, again·
Try me. Just start somewhere..i call it emotional word vomiting. I had a lot of trouble with it when I was about 20, most people ( particularly men) do. 30 yr old M here
- the person who asked·
I'm so tired, I feel like I've never really done anything I like, rather I always did what I had to
- someone who replied, again·
Sort of suffocated? Not choosing based on what you wanted? Yeah. That gets exhausting
- the person who asked·
Yes, now I just do everything I have to I to think the pain would stop but it never does so I just accepted it
- someone who replied, again·
There is a way to make the pain lessen. I feel like I felt the same way in my early twenties. For me, started with therapy. But also with just generally redefining my worldview and starting to realize the compromises in life were necessary and I still could achieve my dreams at the same time. It need not feel so suffocsting, but understand how it can if you are in your situation. What's an example of something that you wish you could do or would
- someone who replied, again·
Have done if you were making your own choices?
- the person who asked·
I would have studied physics instead of ME
- the person who asked·
I would have gotten a girlfriend
- the person who asked·
I would have gotten friends
- the person who asked·
So many things I could have done
- someone who replied, again·
Is there something preventing you from attaining those things?
- the person who asked·
The way I've been "trained", the fear of judgement, judgement from my parents and brother
- someone who replied, again·
Yep. I know the feeling. So there will need to be some untraining or redefining. But that doesn't mean it's insurmountable that's just the next step
- the person who asked·
How do I "untrain" myself?
- someone who replied, again·
Gotta start small. Find a mentor or someone you can bounce ideas off. Maybe a therapist. Someone you can pressure test how you got to be here and where you are seeing blocks where there really are roads and where there are roads where there really are blocks. Don't keep it inside.
- someone who replied, again·
Keep posting here if you'd like. Maybe look into your schools counseling resources if they have em. There is a way forward. There is a way out
