purpose & emotional clarity

Last week I've been feeling like I'm getting sick, like when you're getting the flue but I only feel tired, like zoning out and can barelt keep my eyes open, I am not sick, it's been a week and I would've developed some symptoms by now, usually I confuse psychological pain with actually getting sick but maybr this time is the other way around, it's really bad rn, I have a therapist but won't see her until wednesday, any advice?

Glad you are seeing someone and talking about it. Is it something that worries you in terms of your immediate safety?

I almost crashed twice, I'm so out of it

How is your sleep? Also do you have something that you are working towards in your life? A goal or an interest/passion or objective that occupies your attention?

It's bad, I've had sleep issues for over 7 years, the kinda got a bit better with therapy but lately I kust feel that way, it's not the exact same issues but similar. I kinda do, I'm about to graduate college but tbh I hate it, not the degree I wanted but for some reason I'd like to become a doctor (PhD)

Amazing! Congratulation! You can turn anything into a life experience that is meaningful. The path may not be clear quite yet but doesn’t mean it won’t. What’s preventing you from getting into a phd program?

  • the person who asked

    Nothing

What’s going on with the funk? Sounds like you’ve got a bright future but might be in the dense forest of life where a path isn’t exactly clear yet. It’s a hard place to be and with social media blasting so many messages I can see how it’s a hard time to keep a clear head

It might be bright but it's not what I wanted, I hate the degree I got, my dad said he wouldn't support me if I went for the one I wanted so here I am. I don't care if it's bright or not, I just want happiness and a simple life.

  • someone who replied, again

Hard truth- gotta forgive your dad on this at some point. There is no going back. You can still do what you want in life regardless of your degree but maybe it’s not as immediate as perhaps the other path made it seem. A degree typically has pretty little with what you will end up doing in the working world as well so you may be surprised by what you find. It’s just a skill set, it’s not necessarily a defining characteristic of you & your future

Yah, well, I wanted to be a quantum physicist, I belive you do need a PhD in physics to be able to work at a research center and, given the field, independent work is pretty much impossible. And I agree, one day I have to forgive him, that will be the day when he shows true remorse and stops messing my life, but tbh I don't think I'll live to see that day

  • someone who replied, again

You will have to make the first move there. You cannot wait or you will wait forever as you know. Accept that he’s gonna keep doing that, hopefully he at least has good intentions but maybe sucks at the delivery or the deployment of his care concern or love for you. Many dads do. You can still work in a lab without a PhD too. It’s still possible.

  • the person who asked

Idk, forgiving him while he's still doing the same feels like allowing him to. Yah, I could work in a lab as a physicist with a bachelor's if a had a bachelor in physics, sadly I don't

  • someone who replied, again

You could work in a lab regardless. Ther is always a way. And accepting that he is who he is and forgiving him doesn’t mean you condone his behavior. It just means you don’t harbor resentment about it on your side. Doesn’t mean he was just or right, just means you are choosing to not let it be a stumbling block for you anymore

  • the person who asked

I can do that but I know him, if I forgive him he'll think "good, I can do more things like that" he'll try, I won't let him and we'll just clash. Yah, I can work in a lab but that's not the only thing I wanted, a janitor can work in a lab, I wanted to be a quantum physicist

  • someone who replied, again

You don’t have to tell him you forgive him. You can just do it and keep moving in the direction you want and stop letting your relationship with him get in your way. ‘Way of the superior man’ is a book to consider reading or chatgpt a summary of it

  • the person who asked

    I guess I can try

  • someone who replied, again

It’s a mental tactic to shift the focus from things outside of your control to things in your control. Spend your time working on things within your control instead of hung up on the wrongs of others. Forgiveness is the key to set yourself free from rumination which only delays you from getting to where you want to be

  • the person who asked

I do that, I'm as stoic as it goes but the pain just too much, rn I feel overwhelmed
