purpose & emotional clarity

I talked with my therapist of 15 months about how tired of living I am, how I wanna kill myself and how I'd do it, after some time she told me we had to finish the session early becase we're there to talk about my life, not my death, that she can't tell me what to do with my life and because of that we had to finish the session early. Was that a good thing to do from her?

Hum. I’d have to say no! Sounds like you wanted to share those things. I find it off putting that she felt it necessary to redirect you and cut you off from talking about it. That must have felt awful. It’s hard to be let down by those who we think are the ‘last line of defense’ especially after potentially being let down by so many others before getting there

Idk if she did it make make me snap out of it. What should I do?

Could be. I’d say to her how it made you feel next time you see her and see how she responds. Chances are there is a good reason and hopefully it brings you closer when you talk to her about it. Glad you shared though. That’s not a fun experience. Anything else on your mind?

Idk if she's upset, I wouldn't want to bring that up. Gotta say she did tell me we had to stop but we didn't, I just started talking about something else

Would you say that you are generally more conflict avoidant? And do you sometimes keep things inside for fear of making other ppl feel awkward or in a challenging position?

Idk, sometimes that's the case, sometimes I like to argue, a lot. I guess it depends on how close to the person I am

For sure. It might be worth practicing expressing this emotion with her next time. Look up transference Hoffman process online. That helped me. There is a lot of heavy language about parents and stuff. But I like the concept of how it articulates how we stew after interactions like that and what we can do about it.
