stress & emotional wellbeing

I’ve dealt with depression for 2-3 years of my life. It started when I was 11. I was criticised for what I wore, my haircut, my nationality, and lots of other things. People I considered friends hurt me the most and I felt lost. This developed into losing interest in hobbies my grades dropping and wanting to hurt myself. How do I deal with this? I just don’t know what to do, I can’t reach out . I am a boy so I’m meant to be strong but can’t.

You’ve reached out here so that’s a great start! Asking for help can feel like a weakness but recognizing your limits is truly a strength. Asking for help doesn’t mean you are less of a man. I was in a similar spot in my late teens. I wish I would have reached out sooner. If you were to reach out to someone and share this with them, would would it be and what would you say?

    Who would it be*

Are you in school? What about a counselor or teacher? If not, that’s ok too. I’m happy to listen and share from my experience.

I’m ashamed to say it but I myself used to think depression was just attention seeking. So i don’t think anyone can truly understand me if they haven’t experienced it first hand. I don’t think reaching out at school would work as they would tell my parents who would dismiss it and tell me to man up

Yeah I’ve felt that way before too. Afraid to say anything because I felt like I’d let people down or because I wasn’t ‘supposed’ to feel this way. I was ‘supposed’ to be happy, had everything I could want, but even though I didn’t and I felt ashamed of it. I can see how you’d feel depressed if you don’t feel like you can talk to your family. What are some of the thoughts that happen in your mind that make you feel down? Or cause pain?

I feel like I am a burden and that the people around me would be better off without me. I don’t know how to deal with the intense emotions I go through everyday and feel like my life is not worth living

I have felt the same way. Like I didn’t want to burden people with my problems and I shouldn’t be having them, having the problems made me feel like a failure. What sort of intense emotions are you going through on a daily basis?

I go through intense emotions of loneliness, sadness and anger at my own predicament. I wan to stop feeling this no matter what because I can’t deal with it and I am losing control day by day.

What is your predicament? Also, what do you mean by losing control? I have felt that and often times what’s important is amending your relationship to control, redefining what is actually in your control and letting go of things outside of your control but you can do it’s just a skill.Totally learnable
