I want to give up. I want to withdraw from all my family/friends and give up on life. There’s no purpose anymore

I'm so sorry you have to be going through that. It sucks. Have you told someone about how you feel? If not, do you have someone you trust who you'd be willing to talk to? I know it can be extremely scary and difficult to reach out and tell someone, it takes a lot, but it's so hard to go through stuff like this alone. Do you want to vent about it here at least? I'm no professional, but I'm happy to listen. You're not alone. Sending love, stay safe

Do you have access to therapy/counselling?

Talked to my therapist today. I’m just giving up, I’m tired.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I understand it must be exhausting. It's a constant battle, isn't it. I don't have depression myself, so I can't pretend to know what it feels like, but I live with someone who does. There are bad days and good days. And on the bad days, it's really hard to see that there ever was anything better, or that there could be. I just ask you to please not give up on yourself. I wish I could do more for you than say words.

I know that's not enough. But as little as that means from a random stranger on the internet, your life does have purpose and you matter so much more than you know. You deserve to be better. If you want to give vent to your feelings, talk, let it all out, we'll listen. You are cared about.

Hey buddy. Circumstances can be overwhelming but you're an overcomer. Have you tried to share your thoughts or problems with any trusted person other than your therapist?

I have been telling a trusted person but it resulted in them being overwhelmed. Telling more of my friends and now they have all essentially abandoned me

I am choosing. To live so I don’t burden those around me but I just want to give up on my dreams. Give up on my life.

I'm really sorry for that. I wanna tell you that, this is your life, pursue your dreams and choose to study/ work on the field that you're really interested in. Don't let your thoughts or problems to hold you back. Stay strong! (Hebrews 13:5) God loves you!

I understand that feeling. There may not be anything I can do for you but I’m very impressed that these total strangers have went out of their way to try and help and offer support. People really do care. And sometimes it’s ok to lean on others when down. You don’t have to always be sparky and hopefully and optimistic. Sometimes you have to be sad and down to figure out the reason you need to find the bottom again, reset your feet, and prepare

For the next step. You don’t have to have it figured out. You also don’t have to give up on anything. I’m curious, what dreams are you thinking to give up on?
- the person who asked·
Medical school. Love. Friendship

Care to share why you think those things need be gave up on?

OP, I know you must be sick and tired of hearing things like "keep fighting, it gets better." I'm not here to tell you that, I know you don't feel that way right now. I don't know you or your life. I just know that I have people in my life who were there and wanted to give up, one of them being my mum. I'll never stop being thankful that they didn't, and neither are they. There are still lows, but it's not all there is. My mum completed medical

school, she is a doctor and saved many lives on her job. She has a husband, raised two kids. She has severe depression (ever since she was a teen), was hospitalized before. She'll be in treatment for the rest of her life. It's still a battle. She still struggles. There are times she's too unwell to go to work. Hopeless times. This spring was especially hard. But it's not all there is. There's ups and downs. There's happiness. A worthwhile life.

What you're going through is hard as all hell. But I need you to know that what you're feeling now is not what you'll be feeling always. There is no easy way to fix this. I wish there was. But there are people who care, you're not a burden, your dreams matter. Sometimes things get too much, sometimes even getting out of bed seems like an impossible task. That's okay. You can struggle, be sad, depressed, give yourself space to feel all that.

It sucks but it's not your fault or failure, not a weakness. What your brain is trying to convince you of is not objective. You deserve to get better. If things are too much to handle, take a break if you can. School can wait, your health is a priority. There's no shame in that. Focus on yourself. Sometimes life takes a different turn than you had planned, and that's okay. I'm wishing you the best of luck. I hope things get easier for you soon.
