I’m currently struggling with my anxiety and depression. To the point I can’t cope with anything. I’m going into fits of rage and recently broke my phone. I hate feeling like this but I can’t seem to help it.
I’ve been struggling ever since I met my now wife 4-5 years ago. I didn’t have a great family life growing up and I think that’s emotional stress is coming up since. I also recently lost my dog who I loved like a son over 2 months ago.

Interesting that this started when you met your wife. Any thoughts about that?

It’s tough to lose a pet. Sorry for your loss. Yeah, the curious to hear about how come this coincided with meeting your wife. Also, what are the thoughts that come into your head when you are experiencing these bouts with anxiety and depression?

I think that I left home after having a troubling childhood. I lived on my own for years and felt great. Family life has brought some trauma maybe?
My dad was quite physically and mentally abusive. Not in a drunk way but more felt like we’re raised on a military base. Everything was a mission. My mum and dad separated not long before I turned 19.

I’m having a lot of irrational thoughts about not succeeding, not doing my job, not being who they want me to be. It causes me to overthink a lot.

Ok. Could it be because you are worried that you are not who you want to be?

It could totally be on them and their pressure. But often time we project our own thoughts and worries and assign them to external forces when really they are happening internally. Just trying to decipher if it’s an internal or external conversation to be had

I think there’s an element to that. More for the fact I have to focus my efforts and time on them. For example I have had to work full time to provide when I want to do my own things. But I like being with my family and she doesn’t hold me back.

I need to add... that although my anxiety has flaired since meeting my wife. I feel like crap recently in last few months. Since losing my dog who was like my best friend and in quite a traumatic circumstance I feel is made me a lot worse.

So they don’t really support you in being your own person outside of their circle?
the person who asked·
Forgot to reply. But no I didn’t say that. I said she doesn’t hold me back. She lets me get on with what I want to do.

I think you are right. How does this effect your behavior in relationships?

Interesting. Do you feel stifled by her or your relationship at all? Or simply not good enough for her?
